Many years ago, I was at one of the lowest points of my life. I had truly lost hope. I remember thinking, I just need to feel some hope—just a little!
A Religious Foundation
I grew up in a Pentecostal, charismatic church. My father had been miraculously healed of cancer when I was just a little girl, and our lives changed dramatically after that.
He had bargained with God, promising that if he were healed, he would serve God for the rest of his life. And when he was healed, he committed himself fully to that promise.
In our home, we were taught that the Bible was the absolute truth and that Jesus was the only way to Heaven. If one wanted to avoid Hell for eternity, one had to accept that Jesus Christ died on the cross as the Savior of the world and the Redeemer from our sin, which supposedly damned us to Hell.
As a young person, I had beautiful spiritual experiences and knew—beyond a shadow of a doubt—that God was real and that Jesus was real.
That being said, I now realize that just because we have spiritual experiences within any religion, it does not validate that religion in its entirety. It only validates that we are spiritual beings capable of having profound connections with the Divine Source from which we were created.
A Dream That Turned to Despair
As a young girl, I had one dream that felt magical to me—to marry and have a family. That was all I longed for, all I truly desired in life.
Fast-forward years later, and that dream had come true. I was married and had three beautiful children.
But despite having the life I had always imagined, I found myself in deep despair.
Though I was married, I felt an overwhelming loneliness, so intense that it was physically painful. My husband was a pastor, actively preaching the teachings of the Bible, yet behind closed doors, our marriage and family life were falling apart.
It’s hard to reach out for help when you’re the ones expected to help others.
I was desperate. I cried out to God in ways I never had before. I would weep in the shower, my prayers raw and pleading.
I felt like a victim of my circumstances, resentful of how my life was unfolding.
A Book—The Beginning of Change
One day, while wandering through a bookstore in a mall, I was drawn to a specific book on a shelf. I knew—without a doubt—that I was being guided to it.
That book opened my eyes to the dire state of my marriage. It was the first step toward change.
From that moment on, I began seeking more knowledge. I read other books, attended seminars, participated in workshops, and—trembling with fear—went to a counselor to talk about the issues in my marriage.
One of the biggest lessons I learned was about the victim mindset.
That was a hard truth to swallow.
If I continued to see myself as a victim—blaming everything outside of me for my unhappiness—then nothing in my life would ever change.
I had to take ownership.
And once I did, everything shifted.
But after 29 years of marriage and unresolved issues, that season of my life came to an end, and we parted ways.
A Journey of Growth and Awakening
Since that time, my life has changed in profound ways.
I have grown—both personally and spiritually—beyond what I ever imagined possible.
I continued to devour book after book that I was led to as I sought real truth. I attended countless courses and classes. My understanding of God, life, and purpose began to expand in ways I had never imagined.
My older sister had always questioned aspects of our upbringing and did not blindly follow the teachings of our childhood. She encouraged me to read, to seek knowledge, and to explore the deeper truths beyond what we were taught.
Eventually, I remarried and found a relationship with a sense of ease and security. We are not perfect people, and we still have to work through things, but there is mutual respect and love. I also now have six beautiful grandchildren that fill my heart with so much love and joy! I continue to walk this path of learning and growth.
In recent years, my life has been profoundly impacted by listening to dozens of Near Death Experiences (NDEs). These stories not only taught me about the afterlife but also about what is truly important in this life. They erased so many misconceptions I had about God and completely eliminated my fear of death!
Is my life perfect now? No. But I have found inner peace, happiness, and a connection to God/Divine/Source and the spiritual realms that is truly magical and wondrous.
I now realize that everything I need to live a fulfilling life is already within me.
I can allow love and light to shine through me, just as I was created to do.
And so can you.
A Shift in Perspective
I no longer believe we are sinners in need of saving from Hell.
I believe that Hell is a man-made concept, inserted into religious texts as a tool of control and fear.
And fear is not love.
God—Source—is only pure, unconditional love.
The Bible itself states that God created us in His/Her (God is both male and female) image and likeness. It makes no sense that we, as fractals and sparks of God, would be sentenced to eternal damnation.
God is not corruptible nor insane.
This is one of the many contradictions in scripture that people choose to follow blindly without even questioning that it doesn’t make sense.
I now see Jesus as one of many beautiful enlightened spiritual teachers who came to help humanity awaken. I do not believe He came to start a religion or demand worship. Instead, He came to reveal the divine power already within us. Jesus said ‘I and the Father are one’ and he came to tell us that we and the Father are also one.
Scripture says that ‘the Kingdom of Heaven is within…’ We have the the Divine within us because we were created out of the Divine.
Likewise, I believe that Buddha never intended to start Buddhism, nor did any of the great spiritual masters seek to create religions.
Their purpose was to awaken and enlighten people to the truth of who they already are.
The Problem with Religion
Religion, in its purest form, is meant to help us connect with the Divine.
But over time, man-made ideologies and misinterpretations have been woven into these teachings, leading to division, judgment, conflict, and even hate.
Still, there are beautiful truths within many religions.
Yet, whether you follow a religion or not, the truth remains:
You and I were created from One Source.
We are one with that Source, with each other, and with all that is.
And that, to me, is one of the most beautiful and liberating truths. The Bible does state that ‘the truth will set you free.’ This is so true!
Remember Who You Are
We are here to be expressions of the Divine—the Source that created us.
And that Source is only love.
Pure, unconditional love.
We were made by love, for love, and from love.
Somewhere along the way, we may have forgotten this.
Pain, trauma, and negative life experiences create layers that cover our inner light. Some people, buried under those layers, act out in harmful ways—even committing atrocities.
But at the core of every human being, beneath all the pain and illusion, there is love.
Now is the time to shed the layers of fear and pain.
To return to who we truly are.
You Are Not a Victim
The first step to changing your life is understanding that you are not a victim.
You can see your adversities as tools that lead you to necessary change, growth, and learning.
I am now grateful for the experiences that led me to the truth of who I am—and to the truth of who the Divine Source truly is.
Remember: You are powerful.
You are divine.
And you have the ability to create a life filled with love, joy, and fulfillment.
You absolutely can change your life—once you remember who you truly are.
